It was just over one year ago that we left Canada and our feet hit European soil for our year abroad. We were so full of excitement for our vacation, for Madrid, and for everything that the upcoming year could possibly bring.
At this time last year, we were still on holidays gallivanting around Portugal, eating and drinking as often as we could. We hadn’t yet arrived in Madrid, looked for an apartment, or met any of the people who would be become our closest friends that year. We had no idea that Madrid was only the beginning of four years in Europe.
It’s interesting to look back now, after all of the good and not-so-good times, the adventures, and the regular days to see how far we’ve come, what we’ve done and how much we’ve seen.
And, while it wasn’t always sunshine, champagne and exotic adventures—because let’s be honest, life just doesn’t work like that—I wouldn’t trade a second of it for anything.
