Expat Update: Reconnected!

Hello reader-friends!

Today is a most wonderful day! Not only is it Friday, but it’s the first day I’m writing to you from the comforts of my living room, whilst wrapped in a blanket, sitting just meters away from the fridge and all its delicious contents.

Yes, that’s right. After 3 months of delays, struggles and obnoxious appointments, our home has finally been wired for wifi.

Cue the bands, it’s time to celebrate! 🎉

When I left for work on Wednesday afternoon, our flat was filled with technicians milling around, testing wires and trying to sort out our hot water tank (a whole ‘nother issue, for a whole ‘nother day). I spent my entire shift at work wondering whether or not I was going to come home to happiness, joy and the internet, or the sad reality of yet another wifi-related hiccup.

I burst through the door just after five and the first question out of my mouth was not asking Dave how his day was, but whether or not it had been a success. He then said those three little words that every girl wants to hear: “We have wifi!”

I was elated; excited beyond words.

I spent yesterday relishing in the fact that I could browse the web with reckless abandon – at least, until I realized there really isn’t all that much out there, it’s like TV, 10 million channels and really there’s nothing on – and doing all of those tasks I’ve put off for weeks because they just took up too much hotspot data, like uploading photos to Flickr and clearing out my Dropbox.

It was the most amazing hermit/anti-social day ever! And, today is just as wonderful.

Thanks to everyone who listened to my complaints and commiserated with me over these last few weeks. I hope you all are having just as wonderful a Friday as I am.

Cheers to a great weekend!
