After 6+ years living in a 9-to-5 world, a young couple in their late-20s decided to press pause. He decided to go back to school, she decided to go on an adventure, and together they moved abroad.
This is her story.
Hi. My name is Kate and I’m a 30-something wanderluster, fashion fiend, and list-maker extraordinaire. After working 6+ years in Canada, my partner and I decided to embark on an adventure and move to Europe.
We were both looking for a change from the nine-to-five, and everyone we talked to (from parents to colleagues to friends in our Monday night beginners curling league) told us that now was the time. So, we listened. He decided to go back to school to study Sustainable Development and I decided to take this once in a lifetime opportunity to pick up, live abroad and travel until my bank account could no longer support it!
In 2015, we moved abroad to Madrid, Spain and spent the next ten months of our lives navigating life and language in Spain, and travelling throughout Europe whenever possible. As our time in Madrid was coming to a close and we were preparing to move back to Canada, we were presented with an opportunity to extend our time in Europe — one we just couldn’t pass up.
In late-2016, we were once again en route to a new city, this time Leeds, UK. Although Canada and the UK are very similar, they are also incredibly different, so while we thought this phase of our expat life would be a walk in the park, it turned out to be anything but.
What to Expect from Petite Adventures
Petite Adventures chronicles the life and times of a 30-something Canadian expat navigating life in Europe (first in Spain, now the UK and up next Sweden), and travelling the world one weekend at a time.
Petite Adventures is my little corner of the internet where I detail my experiences (the good and the bad) as an expat navigating life in Europe; it’s a place for me to share the tips and tricks I’ve picked up to help readers make the most of their time abroad; and it’s a forum for me to tell the stories from my various travels around the globe.
