My Travel Bucket List: Split

My Travel Bucket List Split, Croatia []

After spending a couple of days in Zadar, Croatia (click here to read my travel bucket list for Zadar), we’ll be hopping on a bus and heading south to explore the Dalmatian Coast and the city of Split, a city often referred to as The most beautiful city in the world!

Sounds pretty great, right?!

The majority of our time away will be spent in Split, and just like Zadar, I’m beyond excited to explore the city, soak up the sunshine, and so much more. Here is my travel bucket list for Split.

Top Ten Things I’m Excited to See, Do and Eat:

Diocletian’s Palace

✔️Diocletian’s Palace sits in the historic centre of Split. This UNESCO World Heritage site was built at the turn of the fourth century and forms approximately half of the old town of Split. The palace consisted of four monumental gates and is enriched with charming streets and amazing architecture; it’s said to the one of the best preserved Roman palace’s in the world, and I can’t think of a better place to discover Split.

✔️Riva is the city’s main promenade, running along the Adriatic. I can’t think of anything more idyllic than taking a stroll or riding bikes along this gorgeous seafront.

Marjan Hill

✔️Marjan Hill is located just west of Split. It’s a well-known oasis for many people looking to get back to nature and to take a break from the hustle and bustle of city life. Plus, it offers stunning panoramic views of the city, so I think this will be a must visit on our trip!

Varoš is one of the oldest parts of the city. It was the former home to most of the city’s peasants and fisherman and has retained so much of its old world charm thanks to its quaint streets and small, beautiful houses.

Drink wine

✔️Dalmatia is known for its world-class wines. Since I can’t actually recall if I’ve ever had a Croatian wine, there seems like no better time than while we’re in Split to give them a try! Plus, what is a vacation without a little wine!?

Grgur Ninski

✔️Grgur Ninski is a very famous statue located in Split. Legend has it that is you touch the big toe and make a wish, your wish will come true. I’m not one to turn down a little good luck or good fortune, so we’ll definitely be making the trek to rub the toe. Now, to decide on my wish…

Lounge on the beach

✔️The temperatures are on the rise and the forecast looks good. Even if it’s not mid-summer hot, I hope we can spend a little time relaxing on the beach, staring out at the sea (or napping, which is always a great idea).

The Klis Fortress are the ruins of a royal castle and fortress that was used both during the medieval times and the Ottoman wars.

Recently, Klis was used as a filming location for Game of Thrones. Now, I haven’t seen the show (I know, I know…) but Dave’s quite the fan, so I think he’ll have a great time roaming, wandering throughout the ruins, and taking in the view, as will I.

Explore New Split

Split is said to be one of Croatia’s centres of culture, so I’m looking forward to getting out of the historic centre and experiencing the colourful and vibrant new town.

Eat seafood

✔️Because you can’t visit a coastal town and not eat seafood, amirite?!
