One Year in Leeds

Last Friday marked the one-year anniversary of our arrival in Leeds. The day would have gone completely unnoticed if not for Facebook memories reminding me of our hours long journey across the Atlantic, and the ensuing jet lag that just. wouldn’t. end.

I had so many hopes, dreams and plans for our time in Leeds, and as usual, things didn’t go exactly as I’d planned.

Some days were good and others were not. Some days I loved the city and its surrounding countryside, and others you couldn’t have paid me to say anything nice about it. But so is life. No matter where you lay your head, there will be ups and downs, highs and lows, love and hate.

When I look back at our year in Leeds I’m not blinded by the not-so-good times, the bad job interviews, or the long wait to get home broadband. Instead, I see all the great friends we made here; the times we spent laughing and chatting in pubs; and, all the times we tried to figure out just what the hell people were saying in this quirky little city.

Overall, I’m so grateful that we had this opportunity, and I’m so happy that we jumped at the chance to live in Leeds.

It might not have been perfect, but it was still pretty great!
