Stockholm holds a special place in my heart. In 2012 it was the site of my first solo travel adventure (I’ve shared a little bit about that here on the blog already).
It’s funny to think back to that first trip: I really had no clue what I was doing, and I definitely made a few mistakes here and there (if I could do it over again, I could get past-Kate such a better deal!) but I loved it. Armed with my crappy little point and shoot camera, I wandered the streets, taking it all in, and taking pictures of anything and everything that caught my eye—so many of them aren’t good, but I didn’t care then and still don’t now.
It was amazing! Not only was I finding my way around a new city, but I was finding my way in a more philosophical sense. You see, it was while wandering around Stockholm that I realized that traveling and seeing new places make me really happy. I enjoy people watching, seeing new sights, and exploring new neighbourhoods, and it was in those moments that my insatiable wanderlust was born. And now here we are: Three-and-a-half years and 12 countries later.
Although it’s been nearly four years since my last visit, not a week goes by that I don’t think about this beautiful Nordic city. This July, I’ll be lucky enough to find myself back in the capital for a few days while I attend the TBEX Europe Conference. Even though it’s months away, I’m eagerly anticipating a second chance at exploring the city that won my heart so many months ago.
So, to get me through these next few months, I thought I would take a trip down memory lane and share some of my favourite shorts from that first trip that changed everything.
